In “The Book of The Pearl,” renowned gem expert George Frederick Kunz described Queen Pomare of Tahiti playing marbles with “black” pearls in the early 1800s. They’re sustainably harvested from the pristine waters of French Polynesia, strung on silk, and secured with a bead clasp.
